Fredagen den 31 januari 1997 kl. 13.15-14.15 talar dr. Henrik Shahgolian, KTH, om Caffarelli's Regularity Theory for the Obstacle Problem.

Sammanfattning: Let B=B(0,1) and let D be a domain in with . Suppose there is a function u solving the following overdetermined problem:

This problem, with the additional assumption in B, is related to the ``classical'' obstacle problem, which has been studied intensively in the last 20 years.

Under the assumption that is ``thick'' near the origin, L.A. Caffarelli proved that the free boundary is , and hence analytic due to the work of Kinderlehrer and Nirenberg. In my talk I will discuss this problem; I will give an exact formulation of it, its connection with potential theory, and some new results.
