Onsdagen den 16 januari, kl. 13.15 - 14.15 talar Professor Mikhail Agranovich, Moscow State Institute of Electronics and Mathematics - Technical University,
Spectral problems for strongly elliptic second order systems in smooth and nonsmooth domains
Sammanfattning:
We consider the problems indicated in the title with spectral parameter in the system or in the boundary condition. The domain is bounded and smooth or Lipschitz. Any problem has a discrete spectrum. If it is self-adjoint, then our main aim is to find Sobolev spaces in the domain or on the boundary, in which the eigenfunctions form a basis. Applications in the case of the Schrödinger equation relate to the mathematical justification of the so-called "R-matrix method" in physics.
Lokal: MAI:s seminarierum Beurling
Välkomna!
Anders Björn,
Svante Linusson och
Stefan Rauch-Wojciechowski
On Monday 21 January at 13.15, Lina Hemmingsson from the Department of Scientific Computing, Uppsala University, will give a talk on
Deferred correction methods for PDEs
The seminar will take place in seminar room
Beurling.
During the spring we will give a five-points graduate course in Algebraic Topology. In our course we will consider the following moments: Simplicial Complexes, Homology Groups of a Simplicial Complex, Relative Homology, Topological Invariance of the Homology Groups, Applications of Homology Theory to Classical Problems of Geometry and Topology such as the Brouwer fixed-point theorem, the Exact Homology Sequence, Mayer-Vietoris Sequences, Elements of Singular Homology Theory.
Although a course in Algebraic Topology is based on some elements from General Topology and Algebra we will try to include most necessary information in our course. It is a great advantage to have read at least a basic course in Abstract Algebra, e.g. TATA10 or similar.
Teaching: 9 lectures and 6 classes with excercises.
Literature: James R. Munkres, Elements of Algebraic Topology.
Time: The first lecture will be in the week 21-25 January. Exact date and time will be announced later.
Those interested in attending please send us an email: vitja@mai.liu.se
Welcome!
Svante Linusson and Vitalij Tjatyrko
