Analytic contractions and boundary behavior of analytic functions Sammanfattning
There is a large class of contractive linear operators on a separable Hilbert space that can be modeled by the operator of multiplication by the independent variable on a Hilbert space of analytic functions on the unit disc. This talk will focus on a basic problem concerning this model namely, the relation between the abstract properties of the operator in question and the boundary behavior of the functions in the model space. Problems of this type emphasize the interplay between complex analysis and operator theory and in this particular case, they are closely related to index theory and polynomial approximation.

LapsCare - An operational system for staff planning in home care
Abstract: Presentationen är samma som vann EURO Excellence in Practice Award i Istanbul Juli 2003.
The health care system in Sweden and many other countries is facing increasing costs. The major reason is the changing age distribution of the population with more elderly people in need of support. At the same time, health care systems are often very labor and staff intensive. In this paper, we focus on a staff planning problem arising in Sweden where people receive home care from the local authorities. The planning problem is to find work routes to visit
caretakers and at the same time consider a number of restrictions and objectives. Each visit has a particular task to be performed, for example, cleaning, washing, personal hygiene and/or nursing activities. Each staff member has skills and each caretaker should, if possible, be visited by the same contact person. The operational situation is continuously changing and the planning is done each day. We describe the development of a decision support system LapsCare to aid the planners. The system consists of a number of components including information data bases, maps, optimization routines, and report possibilities. We formulate the problem in a set partitioning model and as solution method we make use of a repeated matching algorithm. The system is currently in operation at a number of home care organizations. We report on the practical impact of the system in the health care organization which was involved in the development. The savings are considerably in terms of saved planning time and in the quality of the routes as well as the measured quality for the caretakers. Numerical experiments of the system is presented.

A Panel Method for Supersonic Flow.

Abstrakt: Supersonic airflow is usually described by a nonlinear hyperbolic system of equations. In this thesis we consider an aircraft represented by a union of thin plates orthogonal to the direction of flight, and describe the derivation of an approximate linear model for the airflow around it. The linear model is reduced to a system of integral equations. We propose a new set of functions to approximate the solution to the integral equation system and a panel method to solve the system in the stationary case based on those functions. A set of exact solutions on an infinite strip is derived and is used to verify the method.
