Scientific Computing
Scientific computing is the branch of applied mathematics that develops and analyses numerical methods and algorithms for the solution of mathematical problems mainly from science and engineering. Important topics are efficiency and robustness of algorithms, software aspects and computer implementation, e.g. on parallel computers. Also classical numerical analysis is studied, for instance convergence of numerical approximations, sensitivity to perturbations in data, and the influence of round-off in the computer arithmetic.
Our research is directed mainly towards numerical linear algebra and inverse problems for partial differential equations. There are applications in data mining and thermal engineering.
The division has three professors (one of them is emeritus), one associate professor, two instructors, one research associate and one graduate student.
