21th Summer School 2007
The subject of the summer school this year is data mining. Data mining methods have become highly topical in different applications such as business, medicine and meteorology. As statisticians we must understand, discuss and perhaps adopt the basic ideas. We hope that the summer school will be a good starting-point.
The main lecturer is Paolo Giudici, talking in general about different data mining methods. Complementary lectures are given by Niklas Norén about applications in side-effects of drug use, by Lars Eldén about text mining and by Alexander Ploner about multiple comparison problems.
Paolo Giudici is professor in statistics at the University of Pavia. Data mining and computational statistics are some of his research interests. He is the author of the textbook "Applied Data Mining. Statistical Methods for Business and Industry". His lectures will be based on this book. Niklas Norén is PhD student in mathematical statistics at Stockholm University and working at Uppsala Monitoring Centre with side-effects of drug use. Lars Eldén is professor in scientific computing at Linköpings universitet and one of his research interests is text mining. Alexander Ploner is PhD and Post doc in statistics at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Karolinska Institutet.
